Nachhaltiges Surfen

Did you know regular surfboards aren’t recyclable? Well, it’s true. Also, they break frequently. We change the game by developing a beautifully designed and 100% recyclable surfboard. Wanna ride the wave of change with us? Then read on, surfer.

STEP 1:
FINDING THE RIGHT SHAPE

We pretty much got step one covered. Our board will be a 5’8 performance board suited for beginners and intermediate surfers. Thanks to the marbled material spread, each board has its own visual character.

STEP 2:
THINK SMALL

Basically a surfboard is just a board, right? Don’t be fooled. Hours and hours go into drafting ideas, concepts and early models. To save resources we first draft a miniature edition that needs to pass our tests. This step focuses on finding the perfect substructure, different material combinations and recyclability tests.

Curious? Check out the prototype we submitted to “The Unwanted Shapes".

STEP 3:
MAKE IT LIFE-SIZE
Merijaan_surfboard_mockup

In this step, our baby board will be all grown up. We test the regular-sized board for its surf performance, repairability and durability. A special mechanism stabilizes the board and makes it possible to actually stand and surf on it.

WHAT WILL MAKE OUR BOARDS SPECIAL?

We dream of a sleek, perfect to ride surfboard that’s fully recyclable. A surfboard that doesn’t need newly produced materials, but breathes new life into used plastic. A surfboard that fulfils three goals at once: it’s beautiful, highly functional and 100% recycled & recyclable. Let’s make it happen!

Engineering

Built by surfers for surfers, our board will embrace the ocean like a child embraces her mother. Plastic engineers and ocean lovers René and Lena make the dream come true

Design

Each board has a unique material spread. Our art wizard Isabella creates unique material spreads for every single board. Each piece is absolutely unique.

Recycling

Our board will be 100% recyclable. That makes it the first of its kind. It’s a board for anyone who cares about mother earth and who wants to join the fight against plastic pollution.

Let`s Ride!

Making our dream of a fully recyclable board come true takes time, energy and financial resources. Until development nears the finish line, we’ll be producing smaller surf gear made from 100 % recycled plastic to help us stem investments and master the art of creating beautiful, unique material spreads. Stay up to date about the development process here!

WHAT MAKES RECYCLABLE SURFBOARDS SO IMPORTANT?

Circularity of material

Most importantly, we’re aiming to end plastic waste by reusing existing material. So really, it’s about serving, protecting and appreciating this beautiful planet that we all live on. And not just us humans - all living beings! Because we’re crazy about surfing, building a sustainable surfboard is a great place to start.

Sustainability

A great reason to choose recycled surfboards is that regular boards use composite materials that are hard to recycle and bad for the environment. These composites are made of epoxy resin and different glass and carbon fibre weavings. Unfortunately, epoxy resins are toxic to oceanic life and can cause skin irritation and other health problems for surfers. Also, it’s not recyclable which means - you guessed it - used surfboards also play a part in polluting nature.

Uniqueness

Last but not least, our production technique creates unique material spreads every single time. Every board will have an absolutely individual look, is shaped to be a great ride and made of 100% recycled and recyclable plastic. In the long run, we aim to create greater awareness for the insane amount of plastic waste that’s heedlessly dumped into the environment on a daily basis. We want to promote circular economy solutions that tackle pollution and create new value chains for locals.

OUR BELIEF

We believe in a world without new plastic. And we make the best of the old. We are creating awareness through education of how to deal with plastic. We also love surfing. That's why we develop & market sustainable surf equipment.
